Topkapi Palace - Istanbul
The Ottoman Empire was ruled from this vast compound and luxurious decadent buildings overlooking the Bosporus. The palace complex is built on the concept of courtyards, each with its own purpose. The fourth and final courtyard being the most private and reserved for the Sultan and his family. The gardens are well laid out and the buildings are beautiful. The collection of artefacts and jewels from India to Europe give a sense of the size of the Ottoman Empire and its various influences.
